You want to travel and explore. You saved. You earned two months of paid vacation between amazing careers. And so you go.

You plan like mad. You go places you might otherwise never get the chance, places where no one else you know wants to go. You do things they aren’t interested in doing. You look forward to meeting new people, experiencing new joys and challenges with them, and forging new bonds.

You also realize that it will be hard. Not everything will go smoothly. Places that looked great online may wind up being dirty and crowded. You’ll be exhausted by the air travel. You’ll get tired of wearing the same two pairs of pants and two shirts for two months straight. You’ll dread doing sink laundry nearly every day.

So you think you know everything?

You’re wrong.

Be open to the journey and all it brings you.
